Teen mom, infant daughter found safe after Tacoma kidnapping
TACOMA, Wash. — The search continues for a 17-year-old man who’s accused for kidnapping his own child, and ex-girlfriend in Tacoma on Saturday.
A 5-month-old girl and her 18-year-old mother who police say were kidnapped by the baby’s father Saturday afternoon were found safe after an Amber Alert was issued, Tacoma police said.
The incident began when 17-year-old Mickeal Gordon shot at a home 18-year-old Na’Keisha Belk and her 5-month-old daughter were visiting. No one was hit by the gunfire, but Gordon pushed Na’Keisha to the ground, and dragged her and their baby into the car, police said.
Witnesses told Na’Keisha’s mother LaVonne Belk that Gordon said, “Nobody will ever see you again” as they sped off in a black 2004 Cadillac CTS.
As police triggered a region-wide Amber Alert, apparently Na’Kiesha was able to call her mother during the ordeal. She said Gordon was mad he hadn’t seen the baby in several days and “he just slashed,” according to LaVonne Belk.
The mother asked her daughter where she was, and she said she didn’t know. At some point during the ordeal, Gordon threw his cell phone out the window, LaVonne Belk said.
Police were able to track down the black Cadillac Saturday evening and found both the mother and the daughter safe.
Family members said Na’Keisha was being interviewed by Tacoma Police on Saturday evening while family members took care of the baby. “She’s OK. She seems a little- probably in shock a little bit,” said Na’Keisha’s father Napoleon Belk.
Police haven’t released any additional information, but say Na’Keisha and her baby are in good condition.
Meanwhile, Gordon’s grandfather pleaded for his grandson to surrender to police.
“Please, Mickeal turn yourself in. Let’s make it easy for everybody here ’cause the baby — most of all for that child,” said Marcos Gordon. “It really is disappointing, not only to the family but the community of people. So we just want him to turn himself in and let’s get this over with. Turn yourself in, Mickeal.”
